He is a firm believer in collaborative approaches to care, and is an advocate of day case surgery as a means to reduce barriers and improve patient outcomes.

Richard is married to his high school girlfriend of 20+ years, and has two primary school aged boys with whom he shares his love for all things ocean. With a background that includes a Master of Arts in Ancient Philosophy, and 10 years in the New Zealand Army Reserve, first as an Infantry Officer and then in the Medical Corps, Richard brings a wealth of work and life experience to his practice.

Outside of clinical medicine, Richard is heavily involved in research, holding Honorary Lecturer status at the University of Auckland, and currently working towards a Master of Medical Law and Bioethics at the University of Otago. His research is currently focused on both advances in surgical techniques and reproductive rights.

In combination with Dr James Arcus, the Tasman Gynaecology Team work together, operate together, and share clinical responsibilities and decision making. Richard and James look forward to helping you in your journey to health and wellbeing.
